All-Conference DL Keyshawn James-Newby Transfers To Idaho
Former Montana Tech defensive lineman Keyshawn James-Newby announced his commitment to Idaho. He will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Vandals.
James-Newby earned first-team All-Conference honors last season. He finished the season with 61 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and five pass breakups. He led the conference last season in both sacks and tackles for loss.
James-Newby should make an immediate impact for the Vandals at the EDGE position. Idaho lost the top-five sack leaders from last season’s roster, including defensive lineman Kemari Bailey and Leo Tamba.
Former DSU QB Jared Lewis Commits To Hampton
Former Delaware State quarterback Jared Lewis announced his transfer to Hampton. Lewis will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Pirates.
Lewis saw action in 21 games over four seasons at Delaware State. He ranked second in the MEAC in passing efficiency, passing yards, and passing touchdowns in 2021. His 20 passing touchdowns rank second-most in school history for a single season.
Over four seasons with the Hornets, Lewis totaled 2,367 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, and four rushing touchdowns. He also earned the 2017 Baltimore Player of the Year as a senior in high school.
Liberty DL Khristian Zachary Transfers To Southern
Former Liberty defensive lineman Khristian Zachary announced his transfer to Southern. Zachary will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Jaguars.
Zachary saw action in all 12 games for the Flames last season. He finished the season with 10 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries.
Zachary signed with Liberty as a four-star prospect in the class of 2021. He earned All-State honors and was a Sports Illustrated All-American candidate as a senior. He finished his high school career with 58 tackles for loss and 30 sacks.
Montana QB AJ Abbott Commits To Texas A&M-Commerce
Former Montana quarterback AJ Abbott announced his commitment to Texas A&M-Commerce. He will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Lions.
Abbott transferred to Montana after spending one season at Oregon in 2021. He did not see action over his first two seasons at Oregon and Montana.
Abbott earned first-team 6A All-District 17 honors as a senior after setting the school signal-season record for passing touchdowns. He finished his senior season with 1,906 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, and only three interceptions. He surpassed Andrew Luck’s single-season passing record at Stratford High School.
