Charlotte DB Aveon Grose Signs With Southern Illinois
Former Charlotte defensive back Aveon Grose has signed with Southern Illinois. He will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Salukis.
Grose played in the final six games of the season, with four starts, as a true freshman. He finished the season with 16 total tackles and had a season-high six tackles against Middle Tennessee State.
Grose signed with Charlotte as a three-star prospect in the class of 2022. He earned MaxPreps Preseason All-State honors as a senior and was a third-team All-Ohio selection as a junior. Over his final two seasons, Grose totaled 121 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and three pass breakups.
Former Harvard QB Charlie Dean Transfers To WCU
Former Harvard quarterback Charlie Dean announced his commitment to Western Carolina. He will have two years of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer for the Catamounts.
Dean saw action in 14 games over the past two seasons for the Crimson. He passed for 2,705 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, and completed 58 percent of his passes at Harvard. He earned an honorable mention for the FCS National Offensive Player of the Week against Penn after throwing for 316 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Dean signed with Harvard in 2019 after playing his senior season at Hillsborough. He played his first two seasons at Tampa Catholic and served as team captain at both schools. He also earned the Tampa Bay Times Player of the Week in 2018.
Colorado DB Xavier Smith Transfers To Austin Peay
Former Colorado defensive back Xavier Smith announced his commitment to Austin Peay. Smith will have four years of eligibility remaining for the Governors.
Smith redshirted as a true freshman for the Buffaloes last season. He signed with Colorado as a three-star prospect out of Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia. He was the No. 69 safety and No. 84 player in Georgia in the class of 2022.
Smith was named the Georgia Region 4-AAAAAA Player of the Year in 2021. He finished the season with 39 total tackles, two pass breakups, three interceptions, 125 return yards, and one defensive touchdown. He played quarterback, safety, nickel, running back, and special teams over his high school career at Langston Hughes.
JUCO DB Cedric McClendon Jr. Commits To Towson
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M defensive back Cedric McClendon Jr. announced his commitment to Towson. McClendon will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Tigers.
McClendon earned second-team All-Conference honors as a true freshman in 2021. He finished the season with 58 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup.
As a sophomore, McClendon totaled 49 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He joins a Towson secondary that is led by All-Conference defensive back Robert Javier.
