Tulane ATH T.J. Huggins Transfers To Florida A&M
Former Tulane defensive back T.J. Huggins announced his transfer to Florida A&M. He will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Rattlers.
Huggins played two seasons for the Green Wave, seeing action in three games in 2022. He signed with Tulane as a three-star prospect out of Killian High School in Miami, Florida. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver was the No. 119 wide receiver and No. 101 player in Florida in the class of 2021.
Huggins recorded 20 receptions for 472 receiving yards, five touchdowns, and averaged 23.6 yards per catch as a junior. He made the transition to defensive back during the 2022 season at Tulane and is projected to play the same position at Florida A&M.
ULM WR Coby Cavil Transfers To Prairie View A&M
Former Louisiana-Monroe wide receiver Coby Cavil announced his commitment to Prairie View A&M. He will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Panthers.
Cavil spent three seasons with the Warhawks, recording six receptions for 68 receiving yards and one touchdown. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound wide receiver signed with ULM out of Red Oak High School in Red Oak, Texas. He ranked as the No. 393 wide receiver and No. 333 player in Texas, according to 247Sports.
Cavil was named the unanimous District 6-5A MVP as a senior in 2019. He finished the season with 69 receptions for 1,334 receiving yards, 19.3 yards per reception, and 17 receiving touchdowns. He recorded eight 100-yard receiving games and recorded a career-high 247 receiving yards against Denton Braswell in the playoffs.
2024 3-Star LB Ben Cooper Commits To Illinois State
2024 linebacker Ben Cooper announced his commitment to Illinois State. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound linebacker is from Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Illinois.
Cooper ranks as the No. 192 linebacker and No. 56 player in the state of Illinois, according to 247Sports. He committed to the Redbirds over offers from Lindenwood and Eastern Illinois.
Cooper earned CSL North All-Conference honors and was named an All-Area honorable mention last season. He finished his junior season with 78 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, one interception, and one fumble recovery. He also saw action at tight end, recording 15 receptions for 248 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
2024 QB Whitt Newbauer Commits To Mercer
2024 quarterback Whitt Newbauer announced his commitment to Mercer on Wednesday. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound quarterback is from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Newbauer finished his junior season with 1,963 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, and completed 62.6% of his passes. He helped lead Cardinal Gibbons to a 9-3 record and a run to the second round of the 4A state playoffs. He earned Cap-6 All-Conference honors in his first season as the starting quarterback.
Newbauer committed to the Bears over offers from Central Michigan, Houston Christian, Samford, and Wofford. This offseason Newbauer led Cardinal Gibbons to the 2023 Montgomery Central Air Raid 7-on-7 championship.
