Former 4-Star Auburn DB Devan Barrett Transfers To Incarnate Word

Incarnate Word may have experienced major changes this offseason, but new head coach GJ Kinne has done an excellent job on the recruiting trail this offseason. The Cardinals have landed multiple impact transfers this offseason including former Nicholls State QB Lindsey Scott Jr., Stephen F. Austin DE Wilburn Smallwood, and former Washington RB Caleb Berry. The Cardinals landed another huge transfer from former Auburn and Troy defensive back Devan Barrett who announced his commitment on social media.

Barrett was a consensus 4-star prospect out of Tampa, FL and ranked as a Top-200 player in the country in the class of 2017. The 6-foot, 200-pound prospect ranked as the 11th best running back and Top-30 prospect in the state of Florida. Barrett played running back and defensive back at Tampa Catholic High School. He totaled 2,342 rushing yards, 29 rushing touchdowns, 79 tackles, 8 pass breakups, and 1 interception over his three seasons at Tampa Catholic. Barrett announced his commitment to Auburn over offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, Georgia, and 40 other offers from FBS programs.

Barrett saw action in 14 games over his three seasons at Auburn, but opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID concerns. He saw time at running back, wide receiver, defensive back, and played a large role on special teams. Barrett totaled 112 total yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 2 pass breakups, and 1 special teams touchdown. He announced his transfer in July of 2021 and announced his transfer to Troy for the 2021 season.

Barrett saw action in 10 games and totaled 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1 sack in his only season for the Trojans. He announced his transfer in February and will have one year of eligibility left at Incarnate Word.

The Cardinals lost multiple contributors from the secondary last season including defensive backs Rashon Davis and Moses Reynolds. Barrett will join UCF transfer Zamari Maxwell as major transfer additions for the Incarnate Word secondary. Defensive backs Elliott Davidson, Kaleb Culp, and Brandon Richard all return for the 2022 season. Barrett will be a versatile piece for Incarnate Word and potentially could see playing time at multiple positions throughout the season.

Incarnate Word opens the 2022 season against Southern Illinois on September 3rd in an extremely important FCS out of conference matchup.
