Andrew Body Steps Into A Leadership Role For Texas Southern

Andrew Body was named the starting quarterback at Texas Southern in late September and was one of the most explosive freshmen in the country. In only 8 games for the Tigers Body totaled over 2,600 total yards and 16 total touchdowns. He was named 2nd Team All-SWAC this preseason at SWAC Media Day two weeks ago in Atlanta, GA.

Andrew Body spoke with Zach McKinnell of The Bluebloods at SWAC Media Day and had this to say about what fans can expect from him in the 2022 season:

“The expectations are most definitely through the roof and I plan to meet them all. I have goals for myself as well and I’m going to be the true leader of this team. I want to be able not to be the freshman… take that step from being the little brother to leading the freshmen on the team.”

Texas Southern was voted to finish 6th in the SWAC West, but multiple media outlets have been outspoken about Texas Southern being a sleeper team in the SWAC this season. Body addressed what it would mean to compete and win a SWAC Championship at Texas Southern this season and being picked as a team to watch this season:

“That would be lovely. That would be a true blessing as well. The fact that they would show us some respect like that because a lot of people just feel like Texas Southern is at the bottom, but this year we are going to show them.”

Body also addressed the message from the coaching staff entering the 2022 season on the expectations and what his personal goals are for the 2022 season:

“It’s going to be the same goal every time… SWAC championship. We’re trying to get to Atlanta as well. Off the field I want a 3.5 GPA. Last year I had a 3.0 and I want to have a 3.5 this year. On the field my goal is to increase my completion percentage.”

Texas Southern opens the 2022 season on the road against SWAC West rival Prairie View A&M on September 3rd. You can find our full interview with Texas Southern quarterback Andrew Body on YouTube and all podcast streaming platforms.
