Former 4-Star Vanderbilt LB Alston Orji Transfers To Campbell

Campbell has been one of the hottest teams on the recruiting trail this offseason as the Camels held one of the best FCS recruiting classes in the country. Head coach Mike Minter and his staff have been vocal that the goal is to continue the momentum from National Signing Day and continue to bring elite talent to Buies Creek. The Campbell defense received a huge addition this weekend as former Vanderbilt linebacker Alston Orji announced his commitment to the Camels.

Orji was a consensus 4-star recruit out of Rockwall, TX in the class of 2018. The Rockwall High School standout ranked as a Top-250 player in the country and a Top-15 inside linebacker in the country. The 6-foot-2, 236-pound linebacker was a two-time All-District selection and helped Rockwall win three consecutive Texas Bi-District Championships. Orji totaled 87 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, & 5 pass breakups as a senior for Rockwall. Orji held offers from multiple power-5 programs including Vanderbilt, Georgia, Arkansas, & Baylor coming out of high school. Orji announced his commitment to Vanderbilt in May of 2017 and ranked as the 8th highest rated commit in Vanderbilt history

Orji made an immediate impact for the Commodores as a true freshman, in which he was only 1 of 12 freshman to see the field and played in 11 games throughout the 2018 season. This past season Orji was primed to be a top contributor after his 13 tackle performance against Colorado State, but did not see action after Week 2 of the season. Orji totaled 43 tackles in his 24 games of action for the Commodores and will have two years of eligibility left at Campbell.

The Campbell defense is primed to take a huge step forward in the 2022 season. The Camels return Big South Defensive Player of the Year Brevin Allen and Jerry Rice Award finalist CJ Tillman, while Big South All-American selection Josh Johnson will use an extra year of eligibility for the 2022 season. Orji will join a loaded defensive recruiting class for the Camels that includes 4-star defensive back Myles Rowser, 3-star defensive back Edric Weldon, & 3-star ECU transfer Jayden Chalmers.

The Camels will be one of the favorites to win the 2022 Big South Championship and potentially make their 1st FCS Playoffs appearance in program history. Campbell will open their 2022 season against The Citadel on September 1st in Buies Creek in a huge FCS out of conference matchup.
