Montana State is coming off a run to the FCS Championship in Year 1 of the Brent Vigen era. The Bobcats lost some major contributors from the 2021 squad, but are still primed for another run at their 1st FCS Championship since 1984. The offense for the Bobcats received a huge boost as former Kentucky wide receiver Clevan Thomas Jr. announced his transfer to Montana State on social media.

Thomas was a consensus 3-star prospect out of Miami, FL and ranked as a Top-100 player in the state of Florida in the class of 2017. Thomas played multiple positions in high school including defensive back, tight end, & wide receiver as he helped lead Charles W. Flanagan High to a District 12-8A Championship. The 5-foot-11, 193-pound wide receiver totaled 9 receiving touchdowns as a junior and was a Broward Football 8A-6A 1st Team selection. Thomas committed to Kentucky over other Power-5 programs including Michigan, Syracuse, and Louisville.
Thomas saw immediate action at Kentucky as a true freshman in 2017, but redshirted the 2018 season after only playing in three games throughout the season. Over his career for the Wildcats; Thomas saw action in 29 games with 8 starts and totaled 16 receptions for 169 yards and 1 touchdown. He missed the 2021 season after tearing his ACL during the offseason. Thomas will have one year of eligibility left at Montana State as a graduate transfer.
Montana State had an obvious need at the wide receiver position after losing Lance McCutcheon, Charles Brown, & Nate Stewart this offseason. Thomas will look to compete with Willie Patterson, Andrew Patterson, Utah transfer Cam Gardner, and Ravi Alston at the wide receiver spot for the Bobcats. Thomas brings much needed experience to a young wide receiving room that only had three upperclassmen coming into the season.
Montana State opens their 2022 season against McNeese State on September 3rd as they look to make another run at the FCS National Championship.
