Former UNLV DB Jaylen Lane Transfers To Prairie View A&M

Prairie View A&M is coming off their first SWAC divisional title since 2009, in which the Panthers fell to Jackson State in the 2021 SWAC Championship. The Bubba McDowell era begins in 2022 and the Panthers have multiple defensive departures to replace for next season. The Prairie View A&M secondary landed a huge addition in former UNLV defensive back Jaylen Lane as he announced his commitment to the Panthers on social media.

Lane was a consensus 3-star recruit out of Pearland, TX in the class of 2021. The 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back ranked as a Top-75 safety in the country and a Top-150 player in the state of Texas. Lane helped Shadow Creek High School to a 31-1 record over his final two seasons, in which Shadow Creek won the Texas 5A D-I State Championship. Lane totaled 95 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 13 pass breakups, & 8 interceptions over his final two seasons in high school. He was also a Texas First Team All-District selection in 2019. He held offers from Boise State, Houston, Colorado State, & ECU before announcing his commitment to UNLV in August of 2020.

Lane will have four years of eligibility left for Prairie View A&M after redshirting last season for the Rebels. Lane should be an immediate impact player for the Panthers and will bring his excellent playmaking ability to the secondary. Prairie View A&M lost multiple top contributors from the secondary this offseason, including SWAC All-American Drake Cheatum who transferred to Kansas State. Lane will join Jacksonville State transfer Jamias Presley and Ball State transfer Gerald Smith in the secondary for the Panthers in 2022. The expectations are high for the Prairie View secondary after having the 2nd best pass defense in the SWAC in 2021.

Prairie View A&M opens their 2022 season against SWAC West foe Texas Southern before traveling to take on Abilene Christian in an extremely important FCS out of conference matchup.
