New Alabama State head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. has quietly been dominating the recruiting trail over the past few months. The Hornets are looking to rebound from their 5-6 season in 2021 and have landed some major additions on both sides of the ball this offseason. An offensive rebuild was a top priority for the new Alabama State staff after the Hornets ranked 11th in the SWAC in Total Offense last season.
The Hornets landed an immediate contributor at the wide receiver spot this afternoon in former North Carolina A&T WR Quinzel Lockhart. Lockhart announced his commitment to Alabama State on social media.

Lockhart was one of the top contributors for the Aggies as he saw action in 25 games over the last three seasons. He started his college career at the tight end position, but moved to wide receiver after the 2020 season. Lockhart caught 27 passes for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Aggies.
Lockhart spoke with Zach McKinnell of The Bluebloods after his commitment and Lockhart expanded on what made Alabama State the place to finish his career:
“The program has a lot of potential to be great and I wanted to be a part of it and contribute as much as I can”
Lockhart talked about the recruiting pitch from Coach Robinson and the Alabama State staff:
“What I took out of talking with Coach Robinson and the staff was that they wanted to contend for a championship now. On top of bring in great players from the class of 22 and the transfer portal, I can see that there is weight behind what the staff is trying to accomplish.”
The newest Alabama State transfer also addressed what the Hornet fans should expect from him on the field entering the 2022 season:
“What the fans can expect from me is energy. I’m here to do my part and win as many games as possible with my teammates.”
Lockhart will join the new core of pass catchers including Quinton Torbor, La’Vontae Shenault, & Jaelyn Lay that have announced their transfer to Alabama State.
The Hornets are primed for a huge season to kickoff the Eddie Robinson Jr. era in 2022. Alabama State kicks off their season on ESPN against Howard in the annual SWAC/MEAC Challenge in Atlanta, GA on August 27th.
